27 June I went to Moody Gardens last SaturdayI went to Moody Gardens last Saturday. Time has past since then, but I've been busy. So here's how it went: It was Saturday morning. My brothers and I got ready, and we left. We went to my sister's boyfriend's apartment, and we picked him up. We picked up some McDonald's breakfast on the go. It was a long drive, but we got there. He was a Shell Oil employee, and the company gave out free tickets or something. Whatever. We got there, and we kind of bumbled around, because Alex, my sister's boyfriend, wasn't sure if there was something else we were suppose to do. I also saw my aunt's coworker and her friends, at the Aquarium Pyramid, and she was surprised to see us (my aunt wasn't there, just her coworker who I saw before). She spotted us, and talked with my sis a bit about being with (my bros and I) at the Rodeo before. Well, she moved on, and we moved on. We went around the whole Aquarium pyramid. It was pretty neat. I liked it. I'm not a sea fan though, so I wasn't too interested, but it was pretty neat for what they had. Then we walked to the Rainforest pyramid. It was really big (I think the biggest pyramid) and was my most favorite. There was lots of botanical stuff (and lots of smells too), and it was pretty neat. It was kind of humid though. There were lots of cool plant and trees. Plus there were my birds, and I love birds. I liked the waterfalls, and the little ruin-type looking thingy. For the most part, it was my favorite. Then we went saw a 3D movie. "Adventure's in Animation 3D". For the most part, I loved it. There were 2 virtual characters with the question: Will virtual actors replace real actors one day? They showed us some cool stuff on how 3D movies are made, with neat animation and stuff. It was really neat. Of course, the other main part of the movie, was a movie within that, about a very skinny boxer, called Slim. He's a real feisty boxer, and he had to go up against this other boxer, who looked like he could kill. Of course, at the end, Slim wins. I have to say, he was a real trouper, and pretty much indestructible. Then the movie wraps up with the 2 virtual characters going on about 3D movies. It was awesome. I learned a lot. Then we had lunch. There was this Shell tent outside, and they already had some pre-made lunch thingy going on for Shell employees there. We got our grub, and sat at a table. I had a cheeseburger, potato chips, 1 big chocolate chip cookie, and a Pepsi. It was pretty good, and not nasty. During we ate though, someone kept prank calling me. The first time, I thought someone wanted my sister. My sister was confused when the person didn't talk with her. I guessed I heard wrong, and it might have been a wrong number. Because I couldn't recognize it. Then it called a 2nd time, and it was the same person. I had no idea what the person wanted, or I could barely even hear it. At that time, I told my suspicion that it was probably a prank call. So Alex, suggested we call back, and do the same medicine on them. We tried, but they didn't pick up. But they called again during lunch, and this time, my sister picked it up, and said she was from Domino's pizza. The girl hung up. We cracked up. I think that was the end of it. After that, my two little bros played on a playground outside. Then we went to see a 4D film, about a dinosaur discovery, and how we were on some helicopter or something. It was amazing. All my senses were tingling. There was sprays when we got wet. There was puffs of air when something alive or moving was near us. There was a yucky onion-y smell when we got close to the T-rex's mouth. There was even a thing in the chair, the poked you, and scared you a bit, when something was right behind us, or something to scare us. It was kind of short though, only about a 6 minute film. But it was still pretty awesome. Then we went to the Discovery pyramid. It was pretty much a museum in a pyramid. This pyramid was pretty small though. It only had a snack bar, Discovery gift shop, 3D film, and small exhibit space upstairs. The exhibit was all about sounds and music. It was pretty nice. But small. After that, we went to see a dinosaur mini park. It was under a tent, and there were animatronic dinosaurs moving about. With neat info. placecards about each one. It was pretty cool. That was pretty much the last thing. Then we took the long drive back to Alex's apartment, and stayed there a bit. Until 10, basically. It was great. A wonderful Saturday. 22 June I'm going to Moody Gardens tomorrowI'm planning on going to Moody Gardens tomorrow. It's basically a tourist attraction (or trap) in Galveston. There's plenty of fun things to do there, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I just hope I can find my camera before tomorrow. I somehow lost my camera. The last time I remembered it, it was in the car. I don't know if my dad know where it is (sometimes if he find that I 'carelessly' left something somewhere, he'll take it, and question me about it to see my reaction), but I'm hoping he's not joking this time. Well, hopefully I'll find that camera, and I can take some pics. I'll update tomorrow. 20 June Volunteering at the Library - It's was somewhat hard, somewhat boringToday was my first day volunteering at the library. It was ok. I woke up kinda late this morning. Actually, I woke up at 7 on the dot. But I get drifting off to sleep. Then I woke at 9:51. I was suppose to be at the library at 10! I got dressed real quik, and got to the library in a jiffy. I didn't live too far, so I wasn't that late. Nobody even noticed. The whole day, was pretty much reshelving books, and searching for this one book. Placing back books on the shelves is real easy. Except, the books are still somewhat disorganized, where other volunteers had shifted books to a different spots. So you might have several Arthur books here, and another several somewhere else, or scattered somewhat. And that's pretty unconvenient for library users, and myself. I'm the kind of person that wants to do a good job. Having several books scattered about is not my way. So I tried my best to group them up a bit better. Plus, one of the librarians told me if I could do that, that would be cool. I also did videos and DVD's. Those were easy. There's not many, and they're more clearly labeled. Sometimes around noon, a librarian asked if I could locate a book. She couldn't find it. So I took 20 minutes to glance at the M section in the children's area. Man, are there tons of M's. I also grouped several books that were scattered out a bit. But I finally, located it (even after I scanned the M section several times!) and I gave it to her. She was very grateful. She didn't have to waste 20 minutes. I was just glad to help. I only ran into a few problems today. Not much. It's pretty much simple work. I didn't bother taking a break, until I left at 1:00. Then I had to wait several minutes for someone to get me. It was hot outside. I wish there was some cover over the benches outside, and the pesky flies and mosquitoes could go away. But my parents finally came and I went home. That's pretty much how volunteering at the library worked. I'll work there 2 days (Wednesday and Thurs.) a week. 3 hours each day. At one of the Harris County Public Library (HCPL) branches. Oh, and the Comcast (was Time Warner here) astronauts are going to visit tomorrow! It's at 1:30, and I might stay. I wonder what he's going to do. Probaly just advertise the Comcast service. That's about it. 17 June A nice weekend hereIt was a nice weekend. Yesterday, I went to the movies. I saw Nancy Drew and the Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer. Here's how it went: Nancy Drew (2 1/2 stars) - Sadly, it didn't meet my expectations. It was a good movie, but it didn't stick to the way Nancy Drew was in the books. I'm an avid reader of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books (plus lots of other mystery series). They portrayed Nancy completely wrong. They made her look like a 50's style, old-fashioned girl, with brownish with blond highlights hair, a perfectionist, and overly kind person. That's not how she is in the books. Nancy Drew did start out like in the 30's or 50's, but she's changed throughout the years. She's changed in the 70's, the 80's, the 90's, even the 21st century, she's changed to be cooler. She hasn't always been the way she was in the original books. She had titian blonde hair in the first books. In the recent books, she has reddish-blonde hair. She isn't a perfectionist. She's good as some things (like solving mysteries), but not at everything. And she seems to be kind of a pushover in the movie, and way too kind to others. In the latest books, the Nancy Drew I know, would actually spill some anger out if she's mad. Plus there's tons of other mistakes. Like Nancy's age would be around 18, and Ned's suppose to be a college football player. Ned in the movie does not fit that description. Bess and George are definitely not the same as in the movie. In fact, Nancy Drew just leaves her hometown, moves to California, and then returns back to River Heights when her father doesn't think it was a good idea. That and tons of other scenes in the movie are completely unrealistic. California kids are dressy, hip, and just snobby in the movie. Maybe they are, but I doubt it. It was a good movie, if you aren't familiar with Nancy Drew, but it hits the books the wrong way, and I can't really like it. There's tons of books they could have based the movie on, but this was just sad. I do like Emma Roberts however. :) Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer (4 stars) - I loved it. It was very exciting to me. I loved the thrill and the suspense in it. I also liked the effects they did. As usual, it looked so real. I especially liked scene involving clips of some of the world's icons being twisted. Like snow on the Egypt pyramids. Gigantic hole on the Thames River. Stuff like that. It was also pretty funny in many spots. It's just something you have to see to believe. I don't know what else to say, without going into specifics, but I definitely recommend to watch it. It's very good. You would love it. Then after the movies, we had to go to a restaurant to celebrate Father's Day. Just some Chinese restaurant in Southwest Chinatown. Right after the movies, I was already hungry. By the time we got there, I felt really bad. I could barely eat a thing. All the smells (Chinese buffets really have pungent odors), the noise, and everything made me so nauseous. I looked at the stuff, and I wasn't that satisfied. I don't like Chinese much, and they did have some American food, but I just couldn't eat it. Most of what I saw was seafood (absolutely hate it), and fried food (on an empty stomach, it would kill you). So I tried to look for wheats, like bread or something. They barely had it. The closest was some type of roll. It was like the only thing I could eat (about 2), a little fried rice, and 1 French Fry. My parents went somewhere else, while my sister, her boyfriend, my bro, and I went to my sister's boyfriend's apartment. We stopped to get a DVD (I didn't want to pick any), and ice cream (Went to Baskin Robbins, and I got some rainbow sherbet - it was delicious!). We had some fun, and I saw World of Warcraft for the first time (I'm still not a fan of it, but I admit, it is interesting), AT&T U-verse (absolutely amazing. based on IPTV, the thing of the future, which beats any other provider), and some other cool things. Then we went home. Oh, and at the restaurant, we gave my dad a greeting card and a gift card (Home Depot, the card even had a tape measure inside it!). Today, was Father's Day of course. We went to my grandparent's house for lunch. It was ok. I just ate some eggrolls, and played Monopoly for awhile with my cousins. I also ate a roast beef sandwich too. Plus some delicious chocolate cake from La Madeline. It was ok there. Then we went home, and basically did nothing interesting. So that's about it. That's how the day weekend went. 14 June I want to see some movies this weekend! Some really great movies have came out recently, and I'm dying to see them. So I'll rank them from highest to lowest of what I want to see:
I'll try to see all these movies this weekend at the AMC theater. I hope I get what I paid for. 13 June I'm volunteering at the libraryI'm volunteering at the public library this summer. 2 hours each on Wednesday and Thursday. I'll probaly be shelving books and whatnot. At least this will go into my community volunteer service hours. Which means I'll get credit for it. At least I don't think it will be boring.
I got my report card back quite a while ago, and I thought I should share my grades. I took 3 semester finals and I got:
And here's my semester grades:
It's quite strange that all my elective classes were 97's. But still great! So that's about all. I went to Splashtown Sunday. It's a waterpark here, near Spring, TX. It was really fun. I bought a season pass (which costed like $64, ouch!) and now I can go the whole summer for free. I even got a booklet of coupons. Splashtown is no longer a part of Six Flags, which is a good thing. Though on my ID card, it has Daffy Duck on it, as Looney Toons are affiliated with SixFlags for some reason. Whatever. I really want to take a friend with me. I don't really swim much though. I just go there to have fun in the water. The other day, on Tuesday, I connect with my friend for a few seconds. I've wrote 2 letters to him this summer, but he hasn't replied yet. So I called him, and yes, he answered. He said he was working at summer camp right now, as a counselour (which I already knew before), and that he would call later. He told me that he did get them, but he's so busy with mine and other letters, and whatever. He said he might call me back that day, but he didn't. But it still felt good to talk to him. Even for a few seconds. I really missed him. So that's about it. That's how life is going so far. 12 June I'm back from ItalyNothing much happened in Italy. I just did my job and had some fun. It was amazing. I'll certainly be visiting Italy again someday if I can. It was wonderful. I didn't take any pictures (or at least not ones that I'll show on here). All I can say is I had fun, and wasn't all work like I expected.
I'll try to update some more. I put a new poll asking if I should keep the book list on here or not. It's mainly where I show what books I've been reading (mainly Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, your mystery books really). But it seems to grab too much screen real estate. So I'm wondering does anyone really want the book list on my Live Space? I just wish Live Spaces was more configurable. So vote on my poll, and I'll decide what to do.
I just wished more people would comment on here so I can at least get the feeling that someone actually reads this stuff, and that the view counts of this page aren't misleading. 05 June Leaving for Italy on ThursdayI'll be leaving for Italy on Thursday. It's not exactly for fun though. I'll be leaving because I have a little job that requires me to be there. I'll try to take some photos, and put them on here. I'm not bringing a laptop, so don't expect updates from me, sorry. I'm sure I'll have some fun while I do work there. I've never been to Italy before, but I heard it's nice. It's gonna be great. We'll fly to Milan, stay a few days there, and then travel down to Rome. Sounds like fun to me.
So far, not much as happened in my life but that. Got the news Monday about the Italy trip. That's about it. Thought I should put it on here, so nobody asks questions or anything about me not updating. |
